UNSW has achieved dual success at the Master Builders Association of NSW Excellence in Construction Awards, with two landmark projects earning top honours. These awards celebrate UNSW’s commitment to creating world-class, sustainable spaces that enable learning, research and collaboration, a key focus of the University’s Progress for All strategy.
UNSW’s CBD campus was awarded for excellence in the Tertiary Buildings up to $10 million category. Delivered by MPA Construction Group, the project commended for its innovation, sustainability and exceptional quality of finish. The 5-star Green Star campus redefines postgraduate learning by integrating advanced technology, flexible modular spaces and energy-efficient design to create a contemporary, future-focused environment.
“This recognition reinforces our ambition to create sustainable and inspiring spaces that enable students and staff to thrive,” said Daniel Kirris, Portfolio Delivery Manager. “The CBD campus shows how design innovation can support the evolving needs of education and industry in the heart of Sydney.”
The CBD campus reimagines the urban tertiary experience, uniting design excellence with sustainability and technology to enable lifelong learning and strengthen UNSW’s connection with industry and community.
The Integrated Acute Services Building (IASB), a cornerstone of the Randwick Health and Innovation Precinct was also recognised at the awards, winning the Interior Fitouts $30-$35 million category. Delivered by A W Edwards, this $100 million facility integrates UNSW research, teaching and clinical care across 10 floors, creating a dynamic environment where students, researchers and clinicians collaborate to accelerate innovation and improve health outcomes.
Judges praised the IASB for its design excellence, which seamlessly combines clinical education spaces, PC2 laboratories and health engineering facilities, and for its role in embedding UNSW within a hospital setting to co-design new models of care. This achievement exemplifies UNSW’s Progress for All strategy by strengthening partnerships, advancing health innovation and enabling students and researchers to thrive in a future-ready environment.
Together, these awards highlight UNSW’s ambition to create inspiring spaces that empower people and drive societal impact through education, research and collaboration.
