Researchers from the International Centre for Future Health Systems include Dr Shona Bates, Professor Deborah Saltman, Professor Patricia Davidson, and Associate Professor Michael Wright, published a perspective piece to help develop thinking around what multidisciplinary team care looks like in primary practice. This builds on earlier research led by Dr Bates on the impact of multidisciplinary team care on continuity of care published in 2025.

In this new article, the authors highlight the different forms and benefits of multidisciplinary care, and suggest that rather than a single model of multidisciplinary care, we need flexibility in the use of different disciplines to provide optimal care for patients based on needs and context.  This article contributes to the ongoing research in multidisciplinary team care that is helping to inform primary care reforms in Australia.
