A ground-breaking and Smoking Ceremony on Kensington campus marked the start of construction on the new G25 Education Building.
Delivered by UNSW Estate Management (EM) and head contractor FDC Fitout & Construction, the G25 Education Building (G25) will provide more than 20,000 square metres of purpose-built teaching and learning space.
The new building will feature flexible classrooms, large teaching venues, informal study areas and dedicated student spaces, as well as a new home for UNSW Science’s School of Psychology.
Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Attila Brungs said the project represents an important step in UNSW’s future.
“Today we mark the beginning of this new Education Building on the lands of the Bidjigal people, recognising our deep connection to Country and the collective effort that has brought this project to life,” Attila said.
“This facility reflects our commitment through our UNSW Strategy: Progress for All and long-term Campus Development Plan to create inclusive, future-focused spaces that enable learning, collaboration and impact for generations to come.”
The ground-breaking event brought together University leaders, project partners and staff, recognising the milestone and the many contributions that have brought the project to life.
Proceedings began with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, acknowledging the Bidjigal people, the Traditional Custodians of the land, and reflecting UNSW’s commitment to embedding Connection to Country in the design and development of our Kensington campus.
A key project in UNSW’s Campus Development Plan, G25 will support our student population while enhancing the quality, accessibility and inclusivity of campus spaces.
The development will contribute to a more connected and welcoming campus, with improvements to pedestrian access around Gate 11 and stronger links to Library Walk and the Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct.
EM will also deliver new landscaping, including mature trees and plantings to enhance biodiversity and amenity.
