UNSW’s swimmers delivered a series of strong performances at the 2026 UniSport Nationals Swimming Championships, held in conjunction with Swimming NSW’s Sydney Open at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre across three days of high level racing.

With 26 universities represented at the championships, the event brought together some of the strongest student-athletes from across the country alongside elite club and international competitors, creating a highly competitive environment throughout the meet.

Competing against some of the nation’s best university and club swimmers, the black and yellow contingent produced standout results across sprint, butterfly, freestyle, medley and distance events, highlighted by several top 10 finishes and personal progress markers as athletes continue preparations for upcoming national trials.

Leading the charge was Alex Quach, who produced one of the performances of the meet in the Men’s 100m Butterfly. Racing against an elite field featuring international competitors, Quach finished third overall in the heats with a time of 53.23, underlining his standing as one of the premier university swimmers in the country. He also claimed second place in the Men’s 200m Butterfly in 2:00.46 and added a ninth place finish in the Men’s 200m Freestyle.

“It was great to get some solid racing in over the weekend while still being deep in a hard training block,” Quach said. “I wasn’t expecting much from this meet, so I was happy to just be able to step up and showcase my training whilst representing UNSW. “I’ve got trials in 3.5 weeks and that’s the main focus. Job’s definitely not finished but it was awesome representing the black and yellow.”
