Hall-Muir earns Australian UniRoos call-up
UNSW Elite Athlete Heath Hall-Muir will pull on the green and gold in South Africa after earning selection for the 2026 FISU World University Rugby Sevens Championship.

UNSW Elite Athlete Program member Heath Hall-Muir is set to add another milestone to a rugby journey more than a decade in the making after earning selection in the Australian UniRoos men’s squad for the 2026 FISU World University Rugby Sevens Championship.
Hall-Muir will pull on the green and gold in Stellenbosch, South Africa, from 4–6 September, joining some of Australia’s leading university rugby talent for three days of international competition.
The UNSW student, who is completing a Master of Financial Analysis, is one of 12 players selected in the Australian men’s squad and the sole UNSW representative across the men’s and women’s teams.
The selection continues a rugby pathway that has taken Hall-Muir from representative schoolboy rugby through Sydney’s competitive club system and now onto the international university stage.
While attending Kotara High School, Hall-Muir earned representative honours through the NSW Combined High Schools pathway in 2019 before later joining Randwick Rugby.
He quickly made an impression at the Wicks, being named Randwick’s Third Colts Best Back in 2020. Hall-Muir continued to feature through the club’s Colts pathway, developing a reputation as a dangerous outside back.

His progression in rugby has run alongside an equally strong academic journey at UNSW.
Hall-Muir previously completed a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Finance, through UNSW Business School and has continued his studies with a Master of Financial Analysis.
As a member of UNSW’s Elite Athlete Program, he has been supported in balancing the demands of high-performance sport with his postgraduate studies.
“It’s the opportunity of a lifetime and I can’t wait to represent Australia in Stellenbosch, and a big thank you to the UNSW Elite Athlete Program for its support,” Hall-Muir said.

That opportunity will take Hall-Muir to South Africa, where the World University Championship will bring together university Rugby Sevens teams from across the globe.
Australia will compete against a strong international field featuring South Africa, Canada, Japan, Argentina, France, Mexico, Ireland, USA, Chile, Norway, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Botswana.
The UniRoos men will be looking to build on their performance at the 2024 FISU World University Rugby Sevens Championship, where Australia finished fifth.
The 2026 side will be led by Head Coach Daniel Nethery and Assistant Coach Campbell Thomson, with Tameka Collins serving as Head of Delegation and Sarah Hynes as Team Manager.
For Hall-Muir, the tournament represents the latest step in a pathway that has already spanned school, club and university rugby, and now provides the opportunity to represent Australia on the world stage.
The 2026 FISU World University Rugby Sevens Championship will be held in Stellenbosch, South Africa, from 4–6 September.
