UNSW Canberra appoints Professor Laura-Anne Bull as Deputy Rector

UNSW Canberra has announced the appointment of Professor Laura-Anne Bull as the faculty’s Deputy Rector.

Professor Bull has held senior leadership positions at leading universities across Australia and the United Kingdom, including Swinburne University of Technology, the University of Newcastle, James Cook University, the University of South Australia, the Australian National University and the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.

As Deputy Rector Professor Bull will play a key role in advancing UNSW Canberra's strategic priorities, strengthening the faculty’s academic program and progressing the faculty’s commitment to providing the best possible support for the faculty’s students and staff.

UNSW Canberra’s Rector and Dean, Professor Emma Sparks has welcomed the appointment of Professor Bull, describing her as a highly respected leader with a strong track record of delivering excellence across the higher education sector.

"Laura-Anne brings an exceptional combination of strategic vision, academic leadership and operational expertise. Her deep commitment to educational excellence and student success aligns strongly with UNSW Canberra's mission and ambitions for the future," Professor Sparks said.

Professor Sparks said Professor Bull's experience leading major transformation initiatives across the higher education sector would be invaluable as UNSW Canberra continued to evolve and grow.

"Laura-Anne’s proven ability to build strong partnerships, lead complex change and foster inclusive academic communities will help strengthen our impact in education, research and engagement."

Professor Bull said she was excited to join UNSW Canberra and contribute to its unique role in shaping Australia's future leaders.

"I was the first in my family to head to university straight from school, so I understand the transformative power of education. I am honoured to join UNSW Canberra and look forward to working with colleagues, students and partners to create opportunities, strengthen the faculty’s academic program and make a lasting positive impact."

Professor Bull succeeds outgoing Deputy Rector, Harvi Sidhu, who will conclude an outstanding 30-year career of service to UNSW Canberra.

Professor Sparks thanked Professor Sidhu for his longstanding contribution to the faculty.

"Harvi's dedication, leadership and commitment over three decades have helped shape UNSW Canberra into the institution it is today. On behalf of everyone at UNSW Canberra I thank Harvi for his extraordinary service and wish him well in his retirement."
