Who we are

The Integrated Acute Services Building (IASB), located within the Prince of Wales Hospital, houses a suite of shared Physical Containment Level 2 (PC2) and PC3 laboratories managed by through the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre (MWAC) to support translational research.

These labs are located adjacent to hospital services, including patient wards and surgeries, and managed by a dedicated team of support staff, these multi-user state-of-the-art facilities provide researchers, clinicians and industry partners access to wet lab spaces, instruments, services and expertise to promote collaboration and engagement.

Managed Facilities

Our facilities are managed by a dedicated team who provide critical operational and technical expertise and help foster interdisciplinary collaboration enabling researchers to focus on their research.

PC2 OGTR Biospecimen Processing Laboratory

Embedded within a clinical environment this facility provides researchers with access to multi-user infrastructure for the processing and short-term storage of patient samples, including blood, tissue, saliva and urine.

PC2 OGTR Translational Research Laboratory

Located adjacent to patient wards this state-of-the art shared facility provides PC2 bench space and specialised equipment for researchers to perform their own translational research.

PC3 Research Lab

Our PC3 facility provides specialist laboratory space for working with a range of pathogens under enhanced containment and biosecurity conditions meeting Australian standards and OGTR requirements.

Equipment

Our facilities house a broad range of equipment for biomedical research including Class II biosafety and cytotoxic cabinets, multi-gas incubators, benchtop & ultracentrifuges, DNA/RNA extraction equipment, microscopes, physiological hoods & cold storage capabilities with 24/7 monitoring.
