About Professor Edward Ng
Professor Edward Ng is internationally recognised for his research in urban climatology, environmental design and climate-responsive architecture. He is currently Professor of Architecture in the School of Architecture of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the university’s first incumbent of the Yao Ling Sun Endowed Chair in Architecture.
Professor Ng specialises in green buildings, environmental and sustainable design, and urban climatology for city planning and has developed many performance-based industry practice tools for governments, agencies, designers and planners. As an architect, he designs environmentally friendly and sustainable buildings to improve the living standards of underprivileged people in rural areas.
His work has been recognised internationally through numerous honours, including awards from the Royal Institute of British Architects, UNESCO and the World Architecture Festival, as well as a Doctor of Science (DSc) from the University of Cambridge. He was the recipient of the 2024 Luke Howard Award for his lifelong contribution to the field of urban climate sciences and urban planning.
UNSW has a world-renowned team of scholars undertaking leading research on climate change, the sustainable built environment, and healthy living for our ageing society. As an incoming Martin Green Fellow, it is my honour to learn from them, and to work with them. I hope our collective research can improve the quality, health and the well-being of city dwellers living in the future.
