This project is part of the UNSW Scientia PhD Scholarship Scheme

Successful applicants will receive an annual stipend and a one-off Global Mobility Grant to conduct international engagement activities.

Are you excited by the chance to make a genuine scientific breakthrough? This PhD project offers the opportunity to develop a world-first ultrafast electron spin resonance technique capable of observing the dynamics of quantum processes on previously inaccessible timescales. Working at the interface of quantum chemistry, physics and advanced spectroscopy, you will investigate coherent spin states in molecular materials at room temperature, helping unlock new opportunities for quantum sensing and information technologies.

The project is embedded within a friendly and highly supportive research environment at UNSW, with close mentorship from experts in ultrafast spectroscopy, spin physics and molecular materials. You will work with an established team spanning UNSW, Columbia University and Georgia Tech in the United States, where you will undertake a research placement. Alongside the opportunity to pursue high-impact, ambitious research, you will gain advanced experimental skills, international connections and outstanding foundations for a career in academia or industry.

    1. Residency: Domestic applicants only.
    2. Degree program: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
