Heart Health at the Edge: Building Better Cardiovascular Prevention for Remote Communities in Australia and the Arctic
Successful applicants will receive an annual stipend and a one-off Global Mobility Grant to conduct international engagement activities.
How can we deliver world-class cardiovascular prevention to people living far from major health services?
This PhD will tackle that challenge through an innovative international study of cardiovascular health in remote communities across Australia and Arctic Norway. Embedded within CHRI’s Ten4Ten program, the candidate will work with communities to investigate cardiovascular risk, early detection, referral pathways, digital health, local workforce capability and community-led approaches to prevention.
A research placement at UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø, supervised by Professor Maja-Lisa Løchen and A/Prof Ekaterina Sharashova, will provide a unique opportunity to learn from internationally recognised cardiovascular epidemiology and Arctic health research.
The candidate will examine what remote communities have in common, where solutions must be locally adapted, and how geography, health systems and community priorities shape cardiovascular outcomes.
The project will develop practical, internationally relevant approaches to improving cardiovascular prevention and reducing health inequities for people living in remote communities.
