ALBON is transforming wastewater treatment with a lower-cost, algae-powered alternative to conventional upgrades.
-
ALBON's modular algae-bacteria system removes nitrogen and phosphorus from wastewater while breaking down fats and organic matter that build up in lagoons. In lab testing, removal has reached 99%, averaging 87%. Its algae capture nutrients, while bacteria digest the waste, cutting reliance on chemical dosing and energy-intensive aeration. It retrofits lagoons for a fraction of a conventional upgrade, lowering chemical, energy and sludge costs by up to 80%. Harvested biomass becomes a saleable soil amendment.
-
A mid-sized processor generates millions of litres of nutrient-rich wastewater daily. Existing lagoons remove organic matter but leave nitrogen and phosphorus behind, driving algal blooms and fish kills once discharged. As limits tighten, most regional processors can’t afford the conventional fix — a multi-million-dollar upgrade — leaving them exposed to fines and license risk.
-
Agri-food processors across regional Australia — abattoirs, meat, poultry and dairy facilities — running lagoon systems that pre-date today's nutrient discharge limits.
