Why invest
Tightening regulations against animal-derived inputs, coupled with recombinant protein breakthroughs, are converging just as cell therapy and other biomanufacturing markets scale rapidly.

Media City Scientific is advancing animal-free cell culture with a high-performance alternative to foetal bovine serum.

  • Media City Scientific manufactures FRS Pioneer, a chemically defined and animal-free replacement for FBS. FRS Pioneer enables scientific reproducibility, greater translatability to clinical settings and superior control over research or manufacturing inputs. FRS Pioneer slots seamlessly into existing scientific workflows, matching the performance of cells in foetal bovine serum without the shortcomings inherent to blood products.

  • Almost every medicine is produced or developed using cells in a laboratory. For sixty years, those cells have been grown using foetal bovine serum (FBS): blood drawn from foetal calves at slaughter. FBS is batch-variable, contaminant-prone, and supply-constrained: incompatible with the clean, scalable systems modern biomanufacturing increasingly demands.

  • Pharmaceutical/biotechnology companies and universities. Particularly, those who manufacture/ develop cell-based products requiring regulatory approval or must meet Europe-based regulations around reducing animal usage in research.

    • 50 customers across 15 countries with repeat orders beginning
    • 10 multinationals in large-scale pilots
    • 4 distribution agreements signed outside Australia
