Dr Aiden Lerch

Aiden is a Senior Lecturer (Teaching and Research) in the School of Private and Commercial Law.

Aiden’s research focuses on private law, with a particular emphasis on tort law, equity and the law of remedies. He is the author of Final Injunctions in Tort Law (Hart Publishing, 2025), which was described by Lord Burrows of the United Kingdom Supreme Court as a ‘fascinating and original analysis of the content and role of injunctions in tort law’. Aiden has published several journal articles in leading journals, and his work has been cited and quoted in decisions of the High Court of Australia, the Federal Court of Australia, the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Victoria, and the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of South Australia.

Aiden completed his LLB (Hons I, University Medal) from the University of Wollongong. He completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford as a Clarendon Scholar at St Edmund Hall, reading for the Bachelor of Civil Law (Distinction) and Doctor of Philosophy. Aiden was awarded the Subedi Prize for submitting the best doctoral thesis in law at the University of Oxford in 2023/24.

Prior to taking up his position at UNSW, Aiden worked as a solicitor in commercial litigation at Arnold Bloch Leibler in Sydney. In 2024, Aiden was the Associate to the Honourable Justice Jacqueline Gleeson at the High Court of Australia. In 2023, Aiden held the position of Stipendiary Lecturer in Law at the University of Oxford, where he taught tort law at Worcester College and contract law at Christ Church. Aiden has also taught statutory interpretation and international shipping and commodities law at the University of Wollongong.
