Dr Akshansha Chauhan

I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering, UNSW Sydney, where I work on advancing methane emission observation and quantification technologies. My research focuses on developing novel sensor systems and emission quantification models across multiple platforms, including ground-based monitoring, UAV-based surveys, and satellite observations, with a strong emphasis on coal mines and landfills.

I have experience with a wide range of atmospheric observation instruments such as lidar, DOAS, Aethalometer, pyranometer, and UAV-based sensors. At UNSW, I am contributing to the design of experimental deployments and the development of a control release facility to validate methane detection and quantification approaches.

Previously, I worked at AIRMO GmbH (Germany) on the development of a satellite CubeSat for greenhouse gas monitoring, and at Ming Chi University of Technology (Taiwan) on air quality studies using AutoML for pollutant source estimation. I also served as Technical Expert–GIS at the Quality Council of India, leading a national-scale project on water body capacity analysis.

Beyond methane emissions, my research interests include air pollution, aerosols, tropical cyclones, and climate change impacts. I am keen to collaborate on projects that integrate sensor development, remote sensing, and data-driven modelling to address critical challenges in air quality and sustainable resource management.
