Professor Andi Nygaard

Christian (Andi) Nygaard is a Professor of Housing Economics in the City Futures Research Centre at the University of New South Wales. He has qualifications in economics, as well as history and political science. He researches in the areas housing economics, urban transitions, institutional innovation and impact evaluation.  He has a particular research interest in the economics of housing affordability, long-term urban dynamics, and the intersection of housing/urban systems with sustainability transitions. Research in these areas include macro housing economics modelling; persistence, path dependence and path creation in urban social structures; governance adaptation and social value in affordable housing provision; freight decarbonisation; and sustainability transitions in economic systems (such as regenerative and circular economies). 

He regularly consults and works with governments, peak housing bodies, and community stakeholders, leading to invitations from academic, industry and peak body organisations, and governments / civil services (Australian and international)  to present research findings and provide policy insights. 

Andi is co-managing editor for Housing Studies, the leading journal for academic and policy research in the field of housing studies.
