Professor Angela Nickerson
Professor Angela Nickerson is a clinical psychologist and internationally recognised researcher in refugee mental health. Her research examines the environmental and psychological factors influencing mental health and wellbeing among refugees and asylum seekers affected by trauma and displacement. She undertakes longitudinal and experimental research to identify the key mechanisms shaping refugee mental health, and develops, tests and implements novel psychological interventions to improve wellbeing and access to effective care.
Professor Nickerson leads the Refugee Trauma and Recovery Program at UNSW. Her research has influenced policy, clinical practice and service delivery in Australia and internationally. She is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia and the Royal Society of New South Wales, and Past President of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies
