Dr Annie Herro

Annie is a Visiting Scholar in the School of Social Sciences and the Australian Human Rights Institute at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia. She was previously a Vice-Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Social Sciences (2016-2019) at UNSW.
Her research focuses on the role of civil society in influencing ambitious and systemic political change at domestic and international levels. Additional themes are the role of a transnational advocacy network in advancing the campaign to establishing a convention on the rights of older persons, and the place of civil society in influencing UN peacekeeping reform proposals relating to the responsibility to protect populations from atrocity crimes and the protection of civilians in conflict. The politics radical philanthropy and ageing-related issues have become recent, cross-cutting emphases. She is the author of UN Emergency Peace Service and the Responsibility to Protect (Routledge, 2015).
