Dr Brendan Smyth
Dr Smyth is a staff specialist nephrologist and clinical researcher at St George Hospital. After completing his training in nephrology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, he has been completing a PhD in randomised controlled trials and trial methodology in hemodilaysis. He is due to submit at the end of 2019. He has developed a broad range of research skills and interests. This includes lead roles in the ACTIVE Dialysis and RESOLVE studies and in meta-analysis. He is also involved in the international promotion of clinical trials. As a member of the International Society of Nephrology's Advancing Clinical Trials working group he publishes monthly summaries of clinical trials in nephrology and is developing an online trials toolkit aimed at boosting research participation globally. He is keen to facilitate research participation locally also and to improve the understanding of research methodogies in local medical graduates.
