Carly is an interdisciplinary designer, researcher and Associate Lecturer in the school of Art & Design within the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture. She holds a Bachelor of Music Studies (Performance) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, a Bachelor of Design (First Class Honours) from UNSW and is currently completing a PhD in Design Research (UNSW.) Carly's research is practice-based and explores the visualisation of gesture in live music performance contexts.
As a visual communication designer Carly primarily works on design for print with a significant focus on design for performance, creative arts, and education contexts. She also has extensive experience across object, concept, and film design. Carly was a founding designer and director of The Fortynine Studio, a collaborative design studio based in Sydney. Notable projects with The Fortynine Studio include ReForm Laneway Exhibition as part of Sydney Design 2011 and The Bushfire Collection, a set of works selected for exhibition in Milan Design Week 2014. Prior to her career in design, Carly worked extensively as a music educator and conductor in NSW Public Schools and for The Arts Unit, a specialist branch of the NSW Department of Education.
