Professor Chi-King Lee has been working in the areas of finite element modelling and structural engineering for many years. His main research interests include steel structure, sustainable building structure system and protective engineering for structures. He acts as reviewer for many international journals in the areas of numerical modelling, structural mechanics and engineering. He also worked as a consultant for the PSA Singapore on the dynamic fatigue study of container quay cranes as well as for a building design software company to provide recommendations on the implementation of their analysis and design software.

**Scholarships of $35,000 (AUD) are available for PhD students who achieved UNSW High Distinction (H1) or equivalent in their undergraduate program and/or have completed a Masters by Research.
Several types of scholarships are available. In general, as admission and scholarship applications are highly competitive. In addition, all applicants must meet the English language requirements.
Potential Research Topics
(1) Use of high strength steel and engineered cementitious composites in structural engineering
(2) Development of new engineered cementitious composites and/or other high performance construction material for protective engineering under extreme loading (e.g. fire, impact, blast and fragments)
(3) Protective engineering for structures: Explosion safety of ammunition magazines, Combined blast and fragment loading on structures, Progressive collapse of reinforced concrete structures, protection of infra-structure under impacts (e.g. vehicular and machinery impacts)
