Dr Fang-Lue ZHANG
PhD from Tsinghua University
I am now a senior lecturer within the School of Computer Science and Engineering. From 2017 to 2026, I worked with the Victoria Graphics Group at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. From 2015 to 2017, after earning my doctoral degree working on structure-based image analysis and editing at the Visual Media Lab at Tsinghua in 2015, I continued working as a Post-Doctoral researcher and collaborating on research projects with industry, where my research focus was mainly on the intelligent image and video editing and enhancement. In 2026, I joined UNSW as a senior lecturer.
I have been actively contributing to computer graphics, AI, and Virtual Reality community, with over 110+ papers published, including 40 papers in the highest quality (CORE Tier-A*) journals and conferences, including SIGGRAPH/SIGGRAPH Asia, IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, CVPR, IEEE VR, AAAI, and IEEE Transactions on Image Processing. My work on learning-based visual content generation and panoramic image/video understanding are all state-of-the-art tools. I received the Victoria Early-Career Research Excellence Award in 2019 and several major research grants from the New Zealand Royal Society, MBIE, and industrial partners.
My current research interests include learning-based image/video understanding and manipulation approaches, panoramic scene processing and reconstruction for VR/MR applications. PhD and masters positions are available for doing research in the above fields. Please email me for more details.
