Fleur Harrison
Fleur is the Acting Study Coordinator for the Sydney Centenarian Study (SCS), which has been running at the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA) since 2007. Participants are aged 95 and older, and the aim of the study is to understand the factors that contribute to “successful ageing”. Fleur is also the Brain Trainer for the Maintain Your Brain randomised controlled trial, a multi-pronged online intervention designed to target modifiable risk factors for dementia.
Fleur has been employed in ageing and dementia research at UNSW Sydney since 2010, having worked on numerous large intervention studies at the Dementia Centres for Research Collaboration. She made substantial contributions to the HALT (Halting Antipsychotic use in Long-Term care) project, a single-arm longitudinal study of the impact of deprescribing antipsychotic medications in people with dementia.
Fleur is also a PhD candidate, co-funded by the Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Research Foundation-Dementia Collaborative Research Centres Half-Funded PhD Scholarship and the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA). Fleur’s PhD research aims to improve understanding of apathy in community-dwelling persons by evaluating methods of assessment, investigating its association with immune markers, differentiating from depression and fatigue and modelling its longitudinal course.
Fleur has undertaken a Master of Psychology (Health) at Monash University. She previously completed undergraduate (Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Psychology and French Studies) and Honours level studies in Psychology (Graduate Diploma in Science (Psychology)) at the University of Sydney. During her training as a psychologist, she gained experience in undertaking individual and group cognitive behavioural therapy, conducting clinical interviews and biopsychosocial assessments, and has expertise in multivariate and multilevel statistical techniques.
Fleur’s diverse research interests include behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia, health behaviours, psychoneuroimmunology, personality – particularly perfectionism - and its association with physical health, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/myalgic encephalomyelitis.
