Joe graduated from Monash Business School where he earned his PhD. Currently, he is a lecturer in Accounting at the School of Business, University of New South Wales, Canberra. He is also a full member of the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA). His research interests are largely centred on the interface of accounting and management across areas of sustainability, public sector management, labour management, and education. Joe focuses on how accounting and control practices play out across different organisational settings and cultural contexts. He is trained in and has been conducting both qualitative and quantitative research. He draws upon various sociological and philosophical perspectives and utilises qualitative methods to explore these topics including case studies, interviews, and critical discourse analysis. Joe is working on several projects in the context of the mutual industry, public sector, and Higher Education sector where he is the principal investigator.

Joe’s scholarly work has been published in ABDC-Ranked A*, ISI Listed Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal (AAAJ). Joe has also published book chapters in well-known international publishers, such as Springer Nature and has presented papers at prestigious conferences, such as the Asia-Pacific Interdisciplinary Research in Accounting Conference (APIRA), the Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Accounting Conference (IPA), Academy of Management (AOM), and American Accounting Association meetings (AAA).
