Junxiang Xu holds a PhD in Civil Engineering (Transport) and is currently a Research Associate at UNSW Sydney, specialising in evacuation network design and disaster transport resilience. He has developed optimisation frameworks for pre-disaster evacuation planning that account for uncertain demand, behavioural choice, network reliability, equity, and evolving disruption conditions. His current research focuses on the application of quantum physics and quantum computing to disaster-resilient transport systems, including models of disruption propagation based on quantum percolation and quantum walks, together with quantum and hybrid optimisation methods for identifying critical infrastructure, improving transport network efficiency, and supporting optimal responses to floods, fires, and other extreme events. His work integrates operations research, artificial intelligence, quantum physics, and quantum computing to develop practical decision-support methods for resilient transport systems.
