Dr Kate Bishop is Associate Professor in the School of Built Environment at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. Her background in environment-behaviour research underpins her teaching and research and her particular area of interest: children, youth and environments. She specialises in the research and design of environments for children with special needs; child and youth friendly urban planning and design; and participatory methodologies with children and young people. Kate worked in private industry and government before becoming an academic.

Kate's own areas of research reflect her interests in the relationship between people and place. Drawing on the theoretical traditions of environment-behaviour research, Kate explores the relationship between the physical environment and social experience. She has a particular interest in the experience of children and young people and specialises in using participatory qualitative methods.
