Laya Hossein Rashidi
Laya Hossein Rashidi is a Research Associate at the City Futures Research Centre (CFRC), UNSW Sydney, where she contributes to the Mobility Program. She specialises in transport and urban planning, with expertise in spatial analysis and quantitative modelling. Her methodological expertise includes Python programming, discrete choice modelling, and machine learning techniques for analysing complex mobility behaviours. At CFRC, she works on the NHMRC-funded CapaCITY project, advancing sustainable transportation research and enhancing the Bikeability tool.
She completed her PhD at the University of Sydney in December 2025. Her doctoral research, titled “The Multidimensional Role of Travel Distance on Active School Travel,” examined how demographic factors, built environment characteristics, and parenting styles influence children’s walking and cycling decisions for school travel in New South Wales. She also holds a Master of Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
