Maryam Hashemi is a Data Scientist at the City Futures Research Centre (CFRC) at UNSW, where she develops advanced machine learning solutions to address challenges in housing and urban development. Her work sits at artificial intelligence and data analysis, with a focus on leveraging data-driven methods to support evidence-based planning and policy.

She holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of New South Wales, specialising in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. During her doctoral research, she developed novel approaches in explainable and trustworthy AI, with a particular emphasis on creating transparent and accountable systems that can support real-world decision-making.

Maryam brings over five years of experience spanning academia, industry, and teaching. As an AI developer, she has designed and deployed innovative solutions using machine learning, deep learning, and generative AI. Her technical expertise includes building agent-based models, developing conversational AI systems powered by large language models, and applying computer vision techniques in industry collaborations.

Her research has resulted in multiple peer-reviewed publications, reflecting both theoretical contributions and practical impact. She has also been actively involved in interdisciplinary projects, working closely with domain experts to translate complex data into actionable insights.

In addition to her research and industry work, Maryam has extensive experience mentoring and supervising students and junior researchers in AI and data science projects. She is highly proficient in Python and widely used machine learning frameworks, including TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Transformers.
