Dr Matt Berrington
Matt Berrington is an experimental physicist and postdoctoral researcher in the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications. Currently, he's working on quantum information processing using high-nuclear-spin donors in silicon.
Prior to joining UNSW, Matt worked at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratories, United Kingdom, where he developed mid-infrared instrumentation for atmospheric remote sensing. His PhD research, completed at the Australian National University, involved optical studies of rare earth crystals to identify a system suitable for microwave-optical conversion, and to study the optical effects typical of these systems. This work, which could allow disparate quantum technologies to connect to a quantum internet, was awarded the Bragg Gold Medal for Excellence in Physics.
