Dr Miranda Booth is a Lecturer of Contemporary Defence and Strategic Studies and a member of the War Studies Research Group at UNSW Canberra. A scholar of International Relations and Strategic Studies, her research examines contemporary defence policy, strategic narratives and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) in the Asia-Pacific. As a co-investigator on a Department of Defence Strategic Policy Grant project, ‘Pacific maritime security coordination: partnerships, priorities and possibilities’ (2024 -2026), she provides insights and recommendations to enhance targeted and coordinated maritime security assistance.

Miranda has engaged with the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, East Asia Summit Conference on Maritime Security Cooperation, Australian Defence Force, Northern Territory government, and think tanks including the Lowy Institute, ASPI and AP4D. She publishes regularly on Asia-Pacific defence issues, earning citations with media including Nikkei Asia and a shortlisting with Australian Foreign Affairs Journal. Miranda holds a Graduate Certificate in University Teaching (University of Melbourne), is co-convenor and convenor of the post-graduate courses Foundations of Modern Strategy and Australian Defence Policy respectively, received a Dean’s award for innovative teaching and has presented on serious games in higher education with Simulation Australasia.

Previously, she was the convenor of the undergraduate humanitarian degree and lecturer at the Northern Institute, a social and policy research centre at Charles Darwin University in the Northern Territory, and a research assistant in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne.
