Dr Mukesh Kumar

Dr Mukesh Kumar is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the School of Optometry & Vision Science (SOVS), UNSW Sydney, with extensive experience in clinical optometry, teaching, and research. He was awarded his PhD from UNSW in 2026, with research focused on contact lenses, tear film and ocular surface health, scleral lenses, corneal physiology, and lipidomics. He has around 18 years of clinical experience and more than a decade of teaching and research experience and contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate optometry teaching at UNSW.

Dr Kumar’s research interests include contact lens discomfort, dry eye, scleral lenses, corneal oedema, anterior eye health, and specialty contact lens practice. His work focuses on understanding clinical and physiological changes associated with contact lens wear and translating research findings into better clinical practice and patient care.
