A Principal Research Scientist in Machine Learning at Data61/CSIRO, an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and an Honorary Associate Professor at the Australian National University (ANU). In 2013-2015, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the team LEAR, INRIA, France. He received his BSc in Telecommunications and Software Engineering in 2004 from the Warsaw University of Technology, Poland, and completed his PhD in Computer Vision in 2013 at CVSSP, University of Surrey, UK.
He works on representation learning (contrastive & self-supervised learning, vision-language models (VLMs), LLMs, deep & graph neural nets), image classification & action recognition, zero-, one- & few-shot learning, domain adaptation, incremental learning, object segmentation & detection, generative nets, adversarial robustness, spectral, tensor & hyperbolic learning, RKHS, optimal transportation (OT).

With his PhD students, he has received several awards such as the Sang Uk Lee Best Student Paper Award from ACCV’22, and the Runner-up APRS/IAPR Best Student Paper Award from DICTA’22.
He has been selected as an outstanding Area Chair by ICLR 2021–2023. He serves/served as a Workshop Program Chair for NeurIPS’23 and The Web Conf. 2025 and Senior Area Chair for NeurIPS’23-24, ICLR’24-25 and AAAI’24-25 and ICML’24-25.
