Dr Rebecca Price is an Australian design researcher, educator, and academic leader with over a decade of experience working across Europe and Australia. Rebecca is recognised as a leading voice in resilience and wellbeing in design, exploring how designers and students can develop the confidence, adaptability, and self-awareness needed to thrive in demanding and rapidly changing environments. Her work brings together wellbeing, creativity, and professional capability, with a strong focus on creating more supportive and sustainable approaches to design education and practice. This commitment is reflected in The Resilient Designer’s Handbook, multiple awards for teaching excellence, and her leadership of funded educational initiatives that advance innovative and student-centred pedagogies.
She holds a PhD in Design from Queensland University of Technology, where her research examined the implementation of design-led innovation within an Australian airport corporation. Following this, she relocated to the Netherlands and spent approximately 10 years at Delft University of Technology. There, she progressed from Postdoctoral Research Fellow to Assistant Professor and Master’s Programme Director of Strategic Product Design, while also contributing to faculty leadership, doctoral mentoring, and interdisciplinary research initiatives.
Dr Price has developed a strong international research profile, publishing extensively in leading journals including Design Issues, She Ji, and Studies in Higher Education. Her work spans design innovation, human-centred and systemic design, and the emerging field of designer resilience. Her book, The Resilient Designer’s Handbook, has been widely adopted by students and practitioners and reflects her leadership in integrating wellbeing and capability development within design education.
She has secured over AUD $2 million in competitive research funding as lead investigator, including major grants such as a €800,000 (approx. AUD $1.3M) ClickNL project, a €200,000 (approx. AUD $330K) Roffa Lab initiative on resilient urban systems, and a €100,000 (approx. AUD $165K) Senior Comenius Fellowship focused on forging designer resilience. Additional funding includes national and European grants, education innovation funding, and industry collaborations, demonstrating her ability to attract and lead impactful, interdisciplinary research.
An award-winning educator, Dr Price has received multiple “Most Inspiring Teacher” awards across consecutive years, alongside faculty-level recognition and nomination for university-wide teaching excellence. She has supervised multiple PhD candidates to completion and contributes actively to academic service through international reviewing, invited keynotes, and conference leadership.
Dr Price’s work is defined by a commitment to advancing design as a transformative, future-oriented discipline capable of addressing the complex challenges of contemporary society.
