Saul Deane
Postgraduate Research Student
Revealing the mechanics of foreshore dis/possession’ is the title of Saul Deane’s thesis within the topic of community planning.
Deane’s research is being supervised by Mr Peter Williams and Dr Katrina Simon and examines the fact that public open spaces in Sydney are coming under increasing privatisation/development pressures as the city’s population grows at historically high rates.
His thesis hopes to explain why foreshore areas – often the most valuable – are threatened and what helps protect them, with particular focus on the roles of governance and representation.
