Research Group Activities

I am an Associate Professor at UNSW and a 2023 CSIRO International Hydrogen Research Program Mid-Career Fellow. My research focuses on combustion diagnostics in high-pressure, high-temperature environments and fire safety. I specialize in optical/laser-based imaging diagnostics in practical engine environments, advanced combustion strategies, and alternative fuels. Since joining UNSW, I have helped secure around $22M in external research funding, with $2.49M as a grant or project lead. This includes a $2.5M ARENA Project for renewable hydrogen use in transport and power generation, and a $1.69M Trailblazer Universities Project for retrofitting technology for mining engines that are directly relevant to the proposed project. I collaborate extensively with both Australian and International industry partners. My research team plays leading roles in the very active UNSW Engine Research Group and ARC Fire Hub.

I offer research positions for Masters and PhD students (see research activities). These opportunities are open to international students with a GPA or WAM higher than 3.4/4.0, or a WAM greater than 80 for Australian residents. Successful applicants will join a vibrant research group of over 30 members, including 4 academics. Our group fosters a friendly environment with a wealth of experience to draw upon.
