I am a Senior Lecturer at the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, The University of New South Wales (UNSW). I am an expert in optical/laser-based imaging diagnostics in practical engine environments, advanced combustion strategies and alternative fuels. I am the co-investigators on $18 mil of competitive research funding (e.g., ARENA, ARC Discoveries, Linkages and LIEF, CRC-Ps etc) and research contracts, including a $2.5 million ARENA Project (2018/RND011) that is aimed at enabling efficient, affordable and robust use of renewable hydrogen in transport and power generation. I have extensive collaboration with both Australian and international partners on different industrial and end-user focused research. My research team is part of the very active UNSW Engine Research Group and ARC Fire Training Center, and I work closely with Prof. Shawn Kook, Prof Evatt Hawkes and Prof. Guan Yeoh, who are experts in experimental engine research and numerical simulation. A copy of my most recent CV can be accessed here.
Research Interests
I have research positions available for Masters and PhD students, focusing on jet-wall interaction and high temperature and pressure combustion diagnostics (see research activities). These positions are available for international students with GPA, WAM higher than 3.4/4.0, or WAM >80 for Australian residents. Successful students will be joining a dynamic research group, consisting of 30+ members, including 4 academics. The environment is very friendly and there is a wealth of experience to drawn upon in the group. Students are also encouraged to attend conferences nationally and internationally and collaborate with our research partners in different parts of the world.
Please contact me for an obligation free meeting and tour of the lab.
Scholarships
UNSW Sydney offers a number of prestigious scholarship schemes to international and domestic research candidates.
In addition, UNSW / Home Country Joint Scholarships are available to students from China, Pakistan and Chille to promote international collaboration. My research group will provide top-up scholarships ($3k per annum) to candidates who are successful in securing UNSW / Home Country Joint Scholarships or other externally funded scholarships.
