Dr Tran Nguyen
Dr. Nguyen is a Senior Research Associate at UNSW Canberra specialising in autonomous systems, robotics, and AI for clean energy. He is currently contributing to a project funded by TRaCE (Trailblazer for Recycling and Clean Energy), to apply AI to solve challenge in the clean energy sector.
Previously, Tran served as Lead Robotics Researcher on a DARPA-funded project developing benchmarks to assess the ethical readiness of autonomous systems in defence contexts, and contributed to an ARC Discovery project using bio-inspired vision to advance UAV navigation in unstructured environments.
Tran completed his PhD at the University of South Australia under Professor Javaan Chahl, where his research focused on thermal imaging for UAV navigation in low-light and degraded visual conditions. He also gained industry experience at Lockheed Martin Australia, contributing to a large-scale defence program bridging academic research and real-world deployment.
