Dr Tsz Tin Yu
B.Sc. UNSW, B.Sc.(Hons) UNSW, Ph.D. UNSW
Tsz Tin Yu completed his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Pharmacology (with Distinction) at the University of New South Wales. He then continued his studies and completed his Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Chemistry (with first class honours) and Doctor of Philosophy in synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Naresh Kumar at the University of New South Wales. After some research and teaching positions at the University of New South Wales, he was appointed as an associate lecturer in the School of Chemistry at the University of New South Wales
His research interests mainly focus on synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry, especially on the synthesis of bioactive compounds and the development of novel antimicrobial agents in response to antimicrobial resistance.

My research interests lie primarily in the area of synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry.
Research focuses:
- Development of novel methods for the synthesis of bioactive natural products and their derivatives
- Design and synthesis of novel class of antimicrobial agents with unique mechanism of action in response to antimicrobial resistance:
- Small molecular antimicrobial peptidomimetics targeting bacterial cell membrane
- Quorum sensing inhibitors targeting the bacterial AHL and PQS quorum sensing systems
- Development of dual action antimicrobial agents to target bacterial biofilms and reduce the chance of development of antimicrobial resistance
My Teaching
Dr. Yu currently teaches multiple courses (first year through to third year) across the School of Chemistry:
