How can we pull the environment back from its tipping point? What will stop coral bleaching, environmental degradation and the impacts of climate change? By joining the UNSW Science Faculty, you’ll help develop sustainable solutions to environmental challenges.

Pioneer the science of micro recycling

Imagine using old tyres and plastics as a carbon source to replace non-renewable coking coal to make steel. It’s called ‘Green-Steel technology’ and was invented at the UNSW Centre of Sustainable Materials Research & Technology under the leadership of Professor Veena Sahajwalla. This Polymer Injection Technology is now being used in Australia, South Korea, Thailand, UK and Norway.
Be inspired by Veena’s work and help industry drive positive change in waste management.

Help model the future of climate change

The UNSW Climate Change Research Centre has been testing the predictive power of today's climate models. Centre Director Katrin Meissner believes predictions are less accurate at extremely high atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations. She is incorporating new processes into climate models and makes use of information from the Earth’s past to better understand mechanisms controlling a future warmer Earth.
Be inspired by Katrin's work and help improve the accuracy of climate predictions.
