If you’re on an ATAR pathway and want to discover university, then the Gateway Program is for you. 

The Gateway Program is for students in Years 10, 11 and 12 who want to discover UNSW degree options, explore future career opportunities and access additional resources for the HSC. Participating in the Gateway Program also provides critical support to receive an early offer to UNSW through the Gateway Admission Pathway. 

 

Year 10 Summer Program 

In this on-campus experience, you will explore your strengths, passions and goals through National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) workshops where you will use dramatic techniques to develop and practice your presentation skills. These skills are useful for any interview-based experience, public speaking and real-life work settings. 

Program dates: 17 Feb – 31 March

School allocation is fully exhausted.

Things to know about the UNSW Gateway Summer Program

  • Year 10 students who attend a Gateway school, intend to pursue an ATAR pathway and are interested in attending University. This program is based on school sign-up only.

  • In this on-campus experience you will explore your strengths, passions and goals through NIDA workshops where you will use dramatic techniques to develop and practice your presentation skills. The skills are for any interview-based experience, public speaking and real-life work settings. 

  • This program will run on-campus from 17 February – 31 March 2023. 

  • The three-year Gateway program build on skills, year-on-year. Participating in Gateway Summer ensures that you are best placed to start your senior studies strongly and you will begin to understand what to study at uni, and what to expect once you’re here. 

 

Year 11 Spring Program

In this one-week online program,  explore a range of UNSW degrees and access academic support in key HSC subject areas. You will receive support in starting to plan your Gateway Admission Pathway application and have the opportunity to visit our Kensington campus for interactive faculty experiences.

Program dates: 18 – 21 September 2023

Things to know about the UNSW Gateway Spring Program

  • You can participate in the Gateway Spring Program if you are a Year 11 student on an ATAR pathway and: 

    • are an Australian resident
    • attend a Gateway school or live in a low-socioeconomic area based on IRSAD and IEO indexes of SEIFA criteria.

    *Note – the HSC-specific content covered in the Program is based on the NSW school curriculum and won’t be relevant if you are currently studying outside of NSW.

  • The program is delivered in three components. 

    Spring Into - a 60-minute pre-workshop for the Spring Program

    When: Term 3, Weeks 3 – 8 

    Where: in-school and online

    Spring Program - a one-week program

    When: Monday 18 – Thursday 21 September 2023

    Where: online 

    On-campus day - one day to experience UNSW

    When: Tuesday 26 September 2023 

    Where: UNSW Kensington campus 

  • Get a head start in preparing for the HSC. Discover UNSW degree options. Get to know staff and the student community well before you attend UNSW. Become part of a community of like-minded and motivated Year 11 students.

 

Year 12 Winter Program

In this two-week online program, prepare for the HSC with subject-specific guidance, personalised mentoring, and academic skill-enhancing workshops. Access exclusive follow-up academic and tutoring support in the lead-up to exams and receive support in submitting your Gateway Admission Pathway application to secure your place at UNSW. You will also have the opportunity to visit our Kensington campus for interactive faculty experiences and have your burning questions answered by University Ambassadors. 

Program dates: 19 – 29 June 2023

Things to know about the UNSW Gateway Winter Program

  • You can participate in the Gateway Winter Program if you are a Year 12 student on an ATAR pathway and: 

    • are an Australian resident

  • Access practice papers and receive individualised written exam feedback in preparation for the HSC. Speak with current UNSW students about what uni is really like. Receive specialised guidance on the application process for an early offer to UNSW through the Gateway Admission Pathway.

If you're in Year 12, the Gateway Admission Pathway is an alternative pathway to UNSW which considers more than just your ATAR. It offers early entry to UNSW or a significantly lower ATAR entry requirement for a range of degrees.
