The UNSW Master of Education is a one-year full-time degree (or part-time equivalent) designed to enhance your career options and professional advancement opportunities. Graduates are equipped to progress into specialist fields of education or leadership roles within their existing fields, or into research degrees such as the PhD or EdD.
Please note: that this degree program does not provide a professional accreditation or teacher qualification. If you are seeking professional accreditation as a teacher, you may wish to consider the Master of Teaching (Secondary) or the Master of Teaching (Primary).
Flexible study options
The Master of Education can be completed fully online or via a combination of online and face to face courses. We’ve designed the program in a way that allows you to fit your study around your existing commitments – whether you have full-time work or caring responsibilities, or if you live further away from UNSW; our students benefit from flexible delivery which includes being able to choose from courses that are delivered online as well as school holiday intensive and evening classes.

To aid in the cost of your education, Commonwealth Supported Places are available for domestic students as well as FEE-HELP.

Relevant disciplines may include arts, humanities, media, psychology, social work, business, economics, languages, linguistics, communications, policy studies, behavioural sciences, social sciences.
Relevant professional experience may include roles such as teacher, trainer, coach, educational developer, languages teacher, lecturer, teacher of English to speakers of other languages, educational leader, educational administration.
If you don’t meet the entry requirements for the Master of Education, you may be eligible for the Graduate Certificate of Education or the Graduate Certificate of Educational Leadership. These can provide a stepping stone into the Master’s.
You may be asked to provide evidence of your English proficiency to study at UNSW depending on your educational background and citizenship. English language skills are vitally important for coping with lectures, tutorials, assignments and examinations - this is why UNSW requires a minimum English language competency for enrolment.
If you’re completing an Australian Year 12 qualification (e.g. NSW HSC or equivalent), you do not need to provide anything extra to prove your proficiency. Your qualification will be used as evidence of your English proficiency.
If you do need to provide evidence of your English proficiency, this will be indicated in your application. You can prove this by providing evidence that you meet one or more of the following criteria:

The Master of Education is a one-year full-time program consisting, with six specialisations to choose from. The number of courses, and which courses you undertake will be different depending on which specialisation you choose.
You can take an additional course to develop your academic writing skills. It will not count towards the program requirements.
Each university year at UNSW has three terms and an optional summer study period. You can explore the individual course structures for each of the six specialisation streams available in the Master of Education below.
Some courses may need to be studied early on in your degree, so you’re prepared for courses that can only be studied in later years. You can study full-time or part-time. Depending on how you plan your study load, you can fit two or three courses into a term and one course in a summer term.

There are many Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) available for this degree. This means that the government subsidises a large portion of the fee for eligible domestic students, significantly reducing the cost to the student. Your eligibility to receive a CSP will be automatically assessed when you apply. Full Fees are the cost of the degree for students who do not receive a CSP place.
