Dr. Yenni Tim is a practice-driven researcher specialising in Digital Resilience – the capacity of individuals, organisations and society to make effective use of digital technology to prevent, anticipate, absorb and adapt to major challenges, and to continuously evolve and transform in a productive and sustainable manner.
In her research, Yenni works with colleagues from various disciplines, industry practitioners and communities around the world to understand and build digital resilience to major technological, organisational and societal disruptions. Using qualitative and action design methodologies, Yenni’s research dives deep into the various facets of Digital Resilience – including the design and use of technology for pandemic and disaster response, the building of cyber resilience amidst persistent security threats, the development of data-inspired models and strategies for enterprise resilience, and the digital leapfrogging of resilient communities from poverty and exclusion to agency and empowerment.
Yenni’s research has been published in various A* journals (in the ABDC Journal Quality list), including Information Systems Journal, European Journal of Operational Research, Information & Management, among others. Yenni also presents her research in leading academic and practitioner conferences, locally and internationally. Her research performance has been recognised through the Best Practice-oriented Paper Award from the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS 2017), and a Staff Excellence Award on Research Achievement by UNSW Business School (2018). Yenni is currently serving as an Associate Editor for the Information Systems Journal, and the Managing Editor of Submissions for the Journal of the Association for Information Systems.
In the education space, Yenni is a multi-award winning educator who is committed to work with students to develop digital and resilient skill sets that are needed for this rapidly changing environment. She pioneered the Sandbox for Education model and founded the Sandbox Education Program (https://unsw.to/edusandbox) at UNSW Business School to bring together educators and industry practitioners to co-create authentic curricula that expose students to the latest business and technological challenges in the industry. The impact of her teaching innovation in cultivating adaptive, resilient and future-proofed graduates has been recognised by the national ICT Educator of the Year award from the Australian Computer Society (ACS) in 2019, The Heinz Harant Award for Teaching Innovation from UNSW in 2020, and the John Prescott Award for Outstanding Teaching Innovation from UNSW Business School in 2019.
