Barker Street Parking Station Upgrade
To support its continued growth and strategic goals, UNSW proposes to upgrade the existing Barker Street Parking Station. The proposal includes the construction of three additional storeys on top of the existing structure, delivering around 500 additional parking spaces (approximately 1,400 in total), alongside new end-of-trip facilities, rooftop solar panels, EV charging and landscaping. The design has been inspired by an Indigenous engagement process that informs the project's overall vision and design principles. This proposal will improve the user experience for students, staff, and visitors by increasing parking capacity and providing end-of-trip facilities. Importantly, the additional parking spaces will help to reduce parking demand on surrounding streets, while the construction of a new signalised intersection at Barker Street and Southern Drive (Gate 14) will improve pedestrian safety.
