UNSW Health Translation Hub
The UNSW Health Translation Hub (UNSW HTH) brings together researchers, clinicians, educators, students, industry partners and public health officials to accelerate the translation of research, innovation and education into better health outcomes.
Located within the Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct, the UNSW HTH connects the University more closely with the surrounding hospitals and health partners, creating opportunities for research, education and healthcare to work side by side.
The fully electric building has achieved a 6 Star Green Star rating for building design, construction, repesenting World Leadership in sustainable design.
About the UNSW Health Translation Hub
The UNSW Health Translation Hub expands the University's presence within the Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct, integrating health, education, training and research with acute healthcare services.
The $600 million facility was delivered through UNSW's partnership with Plenary Health consortium and provides 35,600 square metres of space for health research, education, clinical activity, industry collaboration and community engagement.
UNSW occupies 65% of the available space, bringing researchers, educators and students closer to clinicians, industry and health partners.
Located on the corner of High Street and Botany Street Randwick, the UNSW HTH includes:
- Purpose-built spaces for researchers, educators and industry partners to work alongside clinicians
- Education, training and research rooms
- Clinical schools and ambulatory care clinics
- Food and beverage retail and supporting amenities including allied health services
- Space for community and cultural events
- Publicly accessible open space for the community
- Pedestrian prioritised links, including bridges, to easily connect to UNSW’s Kensington Campus and the broader Randwick Hospitals Campus.
The UNSW HTH supports the translation of research, innovation and education into better outcomes for communities locally and globally. More than a building, it creates an environment where research, healthcare and industry can come together to help shape the future of health.
Creating a place for connection
The UNSW Plaza provides 2,500 square metres of publicly accessible open space, creating a welcoming place for students, staff, patients, visitors, industry partners and the wider community to meet, connect and spend time.
The HTH also creates opportunities for industry partners to co-locate with UNSW within the Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct, strengthening connections between the University, healthcare and industry.
The long-term partnership with Plenary Health includes the funding, development and operation of the facility, supported by an initial 20-year commitment from UNSW to occupy 65% of the available space.
Designed through collaboration
UNSW worked with leading Australian consultants, including Architectus, Aspect Studios, Yerrabingin and Arup, to develop the Health Translation Hub.
The UNSW HTH sits alongside the Sydney Children’s Hospital and Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre and the Prince of Wales Acute Services Building (ASB), strengthening the growing Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct.
UNSW has approximately 5000 square metres of space co-located with ASB, supporting greater physical and working integration between the University and the Hospital.

The UNSW HTH has acheived a 6 Star Green Star rating, representing World Leadership in building design and construction under the Green Building Council or Australia's Green Star Buildings v1 rating tool.
Certified in August 2026 with a score of 76, the rating recognises the HTH's performance across eight Green Star categories: Responsible, Healthy, Resilient, Positive, Places, People, Nature and Leadership.
Sustainability was embedded into the design of the UNSW HTH from the outset. The fully electric building incorporates on-site solar generation and was designed to support UNSW's transition towards a low-carbon campus.
The UNSW HTH also contributes to a healthier and more connected campus environment through the UNSW Plaza, which provides 2,500 square metres of publicly accessible open space for students, staff, patients, visitors and the wider community.
Achieving 6 Star Green Star rating demonstrates how UNSW is translating its sustainability ambitions into the design and delivery of major campus infrastructure.

The NSW Government has partnered with the University of New South Wales (UNSW) to strengthen the Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct through the integration of additional health education, training, and research with acute healthcare services - directly benefiting patients, carers, and the wider NSW community.
Building on over 60 years of teaching hospital affiliations, this partnership will help grow the relationship between UNSW and the Randwick Hospitals Campus, its research institutes and broader health partners.
The UNSW HTH will enable a seamless physical and working integration between the hospitals and UNSW, positioning the wider precinct at the forefront of international health research and education.
The Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct is an initiative where UNSW’s teachers, researchers and students can thrive. Students will work side-by-side with researchers on real-life cases and practitioners will be better positioned to answer big research questions and solve significant health problems.
The inspiration is that this shared interaction will allow researchers to undertake studies that are immediately relevant in the real world, with the results of these studies benefitting patients available to the treating clinicians without delay.
The precinct will move toward a more personalised, holistic approach to healthcare supported by community-based services that promote patient participation, early detection of illness and maintenance of good health to prevent illness.
