Our research into paediatric infections brings together researchers from across UNSW and affiliated institutions to share knowledge and build cohesive relationships. We aim to improve interventions and treatments for paediatric infections.

Our goals

  • Develop networks and enhance collaborations.

    • formalise networks/collaborations
    • facilitate bespoke (non-traditional) collaborations.
  • Maintain and grow research capacity, support education and knowledge transfer.

    • encourage and fund high quality research
    • partner with clinical school.
  • Build translational capacity.

    • support clinicians to engage with research
    • develop clinical-research network across the precinct to advocate and normalize translation of research into clinical practice.
  • Adapt to research priorities for clinical and educational needs.

    • partner with local, state, and national bodies.

Research strengths

General expertise in paediatric infectious diseases spanning bench-top to bedside to population levels.

Three core pillars of expertise

1. Perinatal disease

  • Epidemiological studies
  • Interventional studies
  • next-gen sequencing, viral resistance, and viromics
  • diagnostics
  • pathophysiological mechanisms.

2. Antimicrobial resistance and stewardship

  • guideline development and clinical practice improvement
  • clinical trials
  • clinical data collection and analysis.

3. Respiratory disease

  • disease surveillance and epidemiology
  • vaccine trials
  • genomics (host and pathogen).

Our results

  • Scheduled team meetings to develop and progress collaborative efforts.

  • Development of working groups targeting specific research questions/funding calls.

  • Integration with academic and clinical establishments.
