Professor Marilynn Brewer Wins Two Prestigious Awards

Congratulations to Professor Marilynn Brewer of the UNSW School of Psychology, who has been chosen to receive two prestigious awards in recognition for her achievements in research: the John Turner Medal from the Society of Australasian Social Psychologists (SASP) and the William James Lifetime Achievement Award for Basic Research from the Association of Psychological Science (APS), USA.

The John Turner Medal is presented to an excellent researcher who has made an outstanding major contribution to the field of social psychology in Australasia. Professor Brewer will be the first winner. She will receive the award at the SASP 2013 conference and give a lecture on the first afternoon of the conference (Thursday, 11 April).

The William James Lifetime Achievement Award for Basic Research, considered APS’s highest honour, recognises a lifetime of significant intellectual contributions to the basic science of psychology. This year’s Award was given in honour of APS’s 25th Anniversary, thereby recognising Professor Brewer as a distinguished scientist at this moment in APS’s history whose work has had a profound impact on the field of psychological science over the past quarter century. The Award will be announced as part of the commemoration of APS’s 25th anniversary in the Observer and at the APS Convention.
