UNSW Mathematics: STILL number one in Australia! ARWU 2015 rankings released

We are absolutely thrilled to report that for the fourth consecutive year, UNSW Mathematics and Statistics has ranked exclusively first in Australia in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU)!

UNSW Mathematics and Statistics has had a remarkably strong result in the ARWU rankings over the past six years. From 2010-2011 we ranked equal first in Australia, and in 2009 we ranked second in the country.

This year, we were the only Australian university to rank in the top 75 of universities globally in the field of Mathematics.

Of the wonderful news, Head of School Professor Bruce Henry said, "I am absolutely delighted to see that once again UNSW Mathematics and Statistics has been ranked number one in Australia for Mathematics and Statistics by the Academic Ranking of World Universities".

He pointed out that UNSW and the University of Melbourne are the only two Australian universities listed in the top 100 for Mathematics and Statistics.

UNSW ranked in the 51-75 band, the University of Melbourne featured in the 76-100 band, while USyd appeared in the 101-150 range.

Ranking indicators for ARWU include the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes, Fields Medals and Turing Awards, the number of Highly Cited Researchers, amount of papers indexed in Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE) and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI). The percentage of papers published in the top 20% journals of each field is also included.
