UNSW Mathematics and Statistics has again claimed a number one ranking in Australia.

The 2016 CWTS Leiden Ranking of Universities, which is based on metrics from Thomson Reuters, was released on May 18.

In the Ranking by Subject, the disciplines of Mathematics and Computer Science are combined.

These latest rankings reveal that UNSW Mathematics and Computer Science emerge number one in Australia. UNSW is the only Australian university placed in the top 100 for this field, and is ranked 67 in the world.

The CWTS Leiden Ranking 2016 is based exclusively on bibliographic data from the Web of Science database produced by Thomson Reuters.

Indicators for ranking include publications in Thomson Reuters’ Web of Science database, scientific impact, scientific collaboration, and core publications, among others. View the full list of ranking indicators utilised by the Leiden Ranking.

This announcement follows a string of years at number one in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) for UNSW Mathematics and Statistics.

In 2015, for the fourth consecutive year, UNSW Mathematics and Statistics ranked exclusively first in Australia in the ARWU. We are thrilled to also feature as number one in the country in the CWTS Leiden Ranking of Universities, alongside UNSW Computer Science and Engineering.
