Associate Professor Jake Olivier was interviewed on ABC Radio last Friday morning to discuss the compelling case for bicycle helmet safety with presenter Jon Faine.
Mr Faine said he'd wanted to find the "best person that we possibly could to put this [issue] into its proper scientific context", following an on-air argument with a group who is campaigning to water down compulsory helmet laws.
A/Prof Olivier described his research findings regarding bicycle-related head injury hospitalisations in NSW, and cited a 30% reduction in these injuries correlating with a 55% increase in helmet wearing in the state. He also revealed to Mr Faine that he was unprepared for the backlash from anti-helmet groups towards his research.
