Second Maths Teachers Professional Development Day is a success

Last Thursday it was our pleasure to welcome 85 maths teachers from 43 schools to the campus for our second UNSW Maths Teachers Professional Development Day, dedicated to topics in the new draft HSC syllabus.
It was great to meet such an enthusiastic group of teachers and to share our passion for mathematics, both in the sessions and over lunch.
The day began with a welcome from our Head of School, Professor Bruce Henry, who spoke about why mathematics is so central to modern society, before Peter Brown discussed the new draft syllabus and its history. Then it was straight down to business with teachers choosing three of the nine topics on offer which included sessions on statistics, vectors, proof, networks and differential equations.
A very big thank you to the day's presenters, which included David Angell, Peter Brown, Joshua Capel, Diana Combe, Catherine Greenhill, Jonathan Kress, Daniel Mansfield, and Donna Salopek. Thank you also to Gemayne Malapit and Kaye Sedgers for their help with running the event.
Congratulations to Jonathan Kress who organised the day, which was a great success. This was the second PD Day that we have run in the School, and we look forward to doing it again in November. Stay tuned for the next one!
