UNSW Art & Design is pleased to announce Master of Art student Shamanthi Rajasingham as the winner of the A&D ANNUAL 18 Design Competition.
The ANNUAL Design Competition invites all UNSW Art & Design students to design a logo for the A&D ANNUAL Graduate Exhibition. Once again, this year’s competition attracted high-quality and innovative designs from the UNSW Art & Design student community.
The winning design was selected by a panel of UNSW Art & Design lecturers Carly Vickers, Rebecca Green, and Stephen Goddard, Arc @ Art & Design Manager Kieran Butler, and the Dean, Professor Ross Harley.
The panel was impressed with Shamanthi’s beautifully resolved and well-considered design, and its contrast between organic forms and geometric typography. The celebration of the year 18 also differentiated it from previous ANNUAL logo designs.
Shamanthi receives a $1000 award, and will produce work to be implemented across the ANNUAL 18 exhibition, online catalogue, social media and promotional assets for this year’s major graduate event.
About Shamanthi Rajasingham
Shamanthi Rajasingham is an illustrator and graphic designer currently studying a Master of Art with UNSW Art & Design. Her illustrations have been commissioned for editorial work and book covers, and her work has been exhibited at leading galleries in Sri Lanka.
Shamanthi also paints wall murals, most recently as a featured artist at Arc's Artsweek 2018. In 2017, she was included in Imago Mundi's publication on notable Sri Lankan contemporary artists.
Shamanthi’s hand-lettered numerals in the logo design are composed of free-flowing, organic forms. She says that while the “forms are varying shapes and sizes, they come together to create a cohesive whole, just as different themes and styles of the A&D ANNUAL 18 make a cohesive exhibition.”
More of Shamanthi's work can be seen on her website and Instagram.
Runner-up & Highly Commended
This year the panel received a particularly strong field of submissions. They would like to acknowledge Veronica Xu as runner-up. Veronica will be awarded a $100 gift voucher for producing a well-resolved concept design.
The panel also highly commends entries from Danielle Credaro, Muhammad Hanif Hijazi Ahmad, Nurul Adnan, Sunny Lei, and Younna Lee.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the competition.
