Anita Prabhu, an AGSM MBA alumna, has a strong interest in gender equity and has dedicated a portion of her career to raising the profile of women in business for the Australian Computer Society and Westpac Women's Markets.

Established in 2012 and awarded every year, the AGSM Anita Prabhu Women Leaders in Business Award is awarded to a female AGSM Alumni or a current student who has demonstrated entrepreneurship, innovation, leadership and business acumen.

“My hope in sponsoring this award is to recognise women in business from our school as role models and highlight the importance of what we have been taught - innovation, entrepreneurship, leadership, financial acumen, productivity improvement and social conscience - are necessary ingredients in all Australian businesses to make our nation a global leader,” Anita said.

The award celebrates and recognises female business leaders who set the tone within their industry and their community.

The 2018 recipient Emma Madison, Head of Service Design at Screenrights, and AGSM MBAX alumna, said: “Receiving the AGSM Anita Prabhu award was very humbling as it validated my innovative contributions within my industry over the course of my career. It has helped me to focus on finding more ways to have a meaningful impact on the world around me.”

“Sometimes we are so busy being busy that we fail to really get a sense of how much we have achieved,” said Emma. “I never expected to win the award. Being recognised for my achievements pushed me into unknown territory and out of my comfort zone. It extended my own view of myself and instilled a greater sense of confidence in myself.”

All female AGSM students and alumni working in a management role or who run their own businesses are strongly encouraged to apply. The 2019 award recipient will receive a $1,000 cash prize and will be recognised at the UNSW Business School annual awards ceremony held in June 2019.
